KERRYN LEVY - Asymmetry Pair - Charcoal
Using traditional ceramic processes of wheel-throwing, hand-building and illustration, Kerryn Levy creates objects that remember her touch and long to be held. These objects have a connection to the human body that formed them, and the landscape whence they came.
Kerryn is particularly influenced by the natural environment, the Australian landscape and human interaction with, and within it.
This piece is exceptionally special, as Kerryn has used Kintsugi (also known as Kintsukuroi). This is the Japanese art of repairing pottery with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold.
As a philosophy, Kintsugi treats repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise. A golden celebration.
